Peter Baste

Peter Baste is a american photographer. The series "True Norwegian black metal” is a collection of work that shows a group of people who wear black and white make-up, spikes and fake blood not only do they look satanic they have also been known to burn down churches and desecrating graveyard showing that for some its not just music its part of identity.

The images from the “Norwegian black metal” collection are portraits of different people each looking scary no matter what environment they are in. One image shows a part of a car with a scary black and white face in the divers’ seat. The image is an example of what they look like on a daily bases no matter were they are, in the woods or out on the streets.

Some of the images are in black and white which are the most interesting because it makes their make-up stand out more from the rest of the image, no one+ is getting distracted by something brightly coloured+ in the background. There are some colour photos as well which work when there is fake blood used for make-up. Each portrait is different, some show the person just looking at the camera with their make up on in the middle of the street were over’s are show the person looking at the camera for example one image show someone looking at the camera holding an up side down cross at the camera with their arms and face are covered in blood, showing that they take black metal seriously.

Peter Baste’s images are being displayed in the large hall. The images will grab your attention,it could be good or bad but no matter what you think of the subculture the images are something that could shine a light on it in a way that would encourage overs to ether photograph or become interested in the alternative types of subculture and that every one has a different identity.
